Inovasi ini disebut dengan Hydrozea.<\/p>\n<p>Tim yang terdiri dari Shyerly Fauziah Nur Rizki, Siti Nurazilla, Rajiv Tamim Wicaksana, Mia Oktafia, Rafeyfa Nadira Zakauha memilih kulit jagung (zea mays) sebagai bahan utama sebab kandungan selulosanya yang tinggi dan merupakan limbah pertanian yang melimpah. Selain penambahan senyawa kimia lain, Hydrozea juga ditambahkan essential oil chamomile sebagai penyerap kelembapan alami sekaligus aromaterapi antibakteri.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKelembapan udara yang tinggi di dalam ruangan sering kali menyebabkan munculnya bau tidak sedap, jamur, dan pertumbuhan mikroorganisme berbahaya. Kondisi ini menimbulkan ketidaknyamanan serta dapat berdampak pada kesehatan pernapasan manusia,\u201d jelas Shyerly saat menjelaskan kemunculan idenya, Kamis (5\/2).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34905\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34905\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34905\" src=\"https:\/\/news.ums.ac.id\/id\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/02\/Inovasi-Hydrozea-dari-Mahasiswa-Teknik-Kimia-UMS-Hidrogel-Ramah-Lingkungan-dari-Limbah-Kulit-Jagung.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sosialisasi hasil inovasi Hydrozea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Menurutnya, solusi konvensional untuk mengatasi masalah ini seringkali menggunakan silika gel sintetis yang mampu menyerap kelembapan dengan efektif. Namun, bahan tersebut bersifat tidak ramah lingkungan karena tidak dapat terurai secara hayati dan dapat menghasilkan residu kimia berbahaya jika terpapar dalam jangka panjang.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOleh karena itu, perlu adanya inovasi produk penyerap kelembapan berbahan dasar alami yang aman, biodegradable, dan mendukung prinsip green technology,\u201d kata Shyerly.<\/p>\n<p>Temuan ini didapatkan setelah melakukan penelitian dan eksperimen di laboratorium Teknik Kimia UMS selama enam minggu. Proses penelitian diawali dengan isolasi selulosa dari kulit jagung petani di wilayah Sukoharjo. Tahap berikutnya adalah sintesis hidrogel.<\/p>\n<p>Salah satu peneliti lain, Siti, menyebut hidrogel karya timnya memberikan fungsi tambahan sebagai agen antiinflamasi, antibakteri, dan aromaterapi yang menenangkan setelah penambahan essential oil chamomile tanpa mengganggu struktur polimer.<\/p>\n<p>Selain itu, lanjutnya, hidrogel dapat dikeringkan kembali setelah jenuh air menggunakan sinar matahari atau oven bersuhu rendah, menunjukkan potensi reusability yang baik dan ramah lingkungan<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHydrozea yang dihasilkan memiliki komposisi kimia yang sesuai, kestabilan struktural yang tinggi, dan kemampuan penyerapan kelembapan yang efektif, menjadikannya kandidat potensial untuk material alami penyerap kelembapan ramah lingkungan,\u201d tambah Siti.<\/p>\n<p>Siti menyebut, Hydrozea merupakan inovasi berkelanjutan yang ramah lingkungan dan memiliki potensi tinggi sebagai Natural Air Purification (NAP) pengganti bahan sintetis.
